My mother went to see a psychic about a year ago, who told her that when she was pregnant with her oldest son Sean, she may have been pregnant with twins. She went on to tell my mum that the other twin may have decided it wasn't his place nor his time to incarnate, and sort of 'backed out' of the cycle.. I am my mothers only daughter, the youngest of two; for me this means I may have had another older brother or sister. I wanted to know if someone could help me understand.... was this true? It has been pulling at my heartstrings for a while now, and I'm seeking clarification. If this is true, can you tell me what happened to him/her? Why did he/she not come through? If that soul was a he or a she? if they chose to incarnate close to us (a new baby was born just before Christmas on my mom's side of the family, could he be him/her?) or has he stayed in the spirit world? Has he/she chosen to watch over us as a spirit guide..?

For a long time I had wanted another or different older brother or sister because my current brother and I are not close. Please, I would really appreciate your answer and your honesty.. and i thank you for this service. I do not have a job or a credit card, so I cannot afford to hire a psychic myself or even do online readings, and i've asked and asked my mom to go back to the psychic, but she will not.
I am not 18, I am 16.. but i'm so desperate for some answers.. sometimes i stop to think about what life would have been like as the youngest of three children.. how different i might be if i had an extra, maybe more loving sibling role model, and why that soul chose to reincarnate into our family.. Can you connect without trying?

Hi there, hope you are all well. I would just like some advice as to recent goings on with myself. Im not sure its my imagination or what but its bothering me enough to seek some guidance with people who know what they are talking about!

Over the last few weeks a few things have baffled me. These seem to happen at night when im in that limbo stage of just about to fall asleep. The first time this happened i heard my name spoken, it was enough to jarr me awake and have a look round the room. I didnt think anything of it to be honest and put it down to my imagination. However last night and another night several days before i was laying in bed eyes open in that kind of day dreaming way where your not actually looking at anything in particular (im sorry im not very good at explaining things) One of my arms went cold, i have no idea if this has relivance to anything i just remember thinking that and then shortly after i saw (it frustrates me to try and describe this) light but not a light that would light up a room (???) it was like stringy shards shimmering/ flickering, i cant pick out one colour as such. I saw a hairy ball (sorry i just dont know how to explain it) stationary level with my eyes. To the right of this i saw movement what looked like shoulders and back of head moveing as if walked out the door also in this kind of shimmery shard light. There was nothing solid in either form.
I have also heard footsteps on my stairs.

I am really confused, im a regular visitor to mediums and each have mentioned that i will link with spirits and they will work with me. It is not something i have dwelled on, nor thought about untill last night as it was the second time i saw something. Im just a normal young single mum and i feel a bit odd and confused. I dont feel like i can talk to my freinds at the moment about this in case the think ive gone mad. Can anybody rest my mind and tell me im dreaming or is something actually going on around me?

Namaste All! Need a little help please....

A small group of us here in Oregon have started this amazing healing drum circle, to heal ourselves, and the Earth.
Basically what we are doing is Shamanic drumming and a journey at the same time. It's an amazing experience that we all travel through together and individually. We have raised enormous amounts of energy for such a small group, and we thought, "Hey! If we can do this, imagine what one million people could do!" This is where I humbly ask for everyone's assistance :-)

We would like to organize a worldwide (if that's possible) drum circle. We feel that the Summer Solstice would give us enough time to put something together. No one has to travel, however we are encouraging everyone to do the drumming and journeying outside (absolutely not required). It would be wonderful if we could get people involved from everywhere, as our planet and our species is in dire need of help.
This is also something we plan on doing every year.
All we are asking is that you pass it on. Save the date and tell everyone you know.

I have done some research of my own accord, and discovered (okay, I am pretty new to all of these experiences that I am having here) that our Mother Earth has her own Chakra's! See link for info and map below........
And the point of that is.....that if we focused our energies into those chakra's and opening them up, get them flowing again, we can help heal this planet. Much cleansing will be done on Mother's part, but I know we can bring back balance.

It is very frustrating knowing that our precious Earth is in the hands of those who don't respect, don't care, or have no intrest in healing her. We are doing everything we can to open minds, enlighten spirits, and lead the way to a new Earth.
We hope that you will join us on this journey :-)

Should Salem's fortunetellers have to pass a test of their own to prove they're psychic?

City councilors, hoping to crack down on fraudulent fortunetellers, are trying to define exactly how a psychic can become licensed to set up shop in the Witch City. They want candidates to undergo a criminal background check and to either live or run a business in Salem for at least a year.

But many psychics want the city to go a step further | make sure they're actually qualified to predict the future.

"It's become a free-for-all," said Laurie Cabot, the official witch of Salem. "Anyone who says they're psychic can come into the city. We don't even know where they come from. We don't know their qualifications."

For more than three hours this week, city councilors listened to two dozen witches and psychics | many clad in black and wearing pentacles | as they explained the tools of their trade.

"There has to be criteria or you're going to get garbage coming here," Barbara Szafranski, the owner of Angelica of the Angels, predicted. "Everybody here is a legitimate person who's worked for years and years. ... When you do a reading, you hold a person's life right in your hands. We have people come to us who are willing to commit suicide, who won't go to a psychiatrist, so they come to us."

"What are the criteria?" asked a baffled Councilor-at-large Joan Lovely. "Is there schooling?"

"No one under the age of 20 should be doing readings, because they don't have the life experience," said Szafranski, who suggested creating a committee that would screen prospective psychics.

When Cabot became the first person in Salem to be granted a fortunteller's license decades ago, she said she first had to perform a legitimate reading in front of a police officer.

"He sat down with me, I did a psychic reading, he was pleased with the reading, and I got my license," Cabot said.

'There are nuts out there'

Some city councilors seemed to agree that psychics should have to provide more than just a business plan and a crystal ball before setting up shop.

"I'm completely unqualified to be a reader, but by these criteria I could make it by the Licensing Board," Ward 2 Councilor Michael Sosnowski said.

Councilors are considering requiring pyschics to submit a five-year employment history and their educational background before their license is granted.

"Every reader in this room is legitimate," said Doug Johnson, a psychic at Pyramid Books who wants candidates to show their experience and training before becoming licensed. "But there are nuts out there | people that are not mentally there."

The city took up the issue almost a year ago, mainly to prevent fortunetellers from blatantly ripping off consumers by demanding lucrative payments in return for lifting a curse or removing a "black cloud."

One woman paid more than $2,000 for readings at a Salem shop, where she was told she had a black aura around her, according to Szafranski.

"Then one day she came into my shop crying," Szafranski told city councilors. "I said, 'You don't have a black aura. Sit down and I'll show you your aura on my machine.' And it was blue and wonderful."

City councilors modeled the regulations after those used by San Francisco, which licenses between 30 and 40 fortunetellers.

But they ran into trouble trying to define the practice of fortunetelling and opted to scrap a line referring to it as casting spells, removing curses, and administering potions to "recover property, stop bad luck, give good luck, put bad luck on a person or animal ... shorten a person's life ... make one person marry or divorce another, induce a person to make or alter a will, (or) tell where money or property is hidden."

"Fortunetelling is divination," Amy Ravish said. "It's the use of skills and tools to do psychic counseling. What you're talking about really sounds strange."

Councilors are expected to revisit the topic. Among the other issues, councilors plan to limit to 10 the number of licensed psychics that can read at psychic fairs and to allow shop owners to set up their own fairs.

"We don't portray ourselves in a horrific way," Cabot said. "We don't bilk people or try to take advantage of people. We're hard workers."

According to a draft of the city's proposed regulations for psychics, fortunetelling would be defined as:

"the telling of fortunes, forecasting of futures, or reading the past, by means of any occult, psychic power, faculty, force, clairvoyance, cartomancy, psychometry, phrenology, spirits, tea leaves, tarot cards, scrying, coins, sticks, dice, sand, coffee grounds, crystal gazing or other such reading, or through mediumship, seership, prophecy, augury, astrology, palmistry, necromancy, mindreading, telepathy or other craft, art, science, talisman, charm, potion, magnetism, magnetized article or substance, or by any such similar thing or act."

I've been practicing many years at advancing my clairvoyance...and ever since last year, it seems as if they've been growing at a very rapid pace. It's gotten so bad that I'd rather be alone in my room or alone with only a few people around me because that is all that I can take at a time. Because whenever I'm out in public or there's just too many people around me at once, I lose focus, become aware of everything around me and end up hearing everyone's thoughts, feelings, futures, past's....It's really frustrated because the feeling is constricting my own energies or just clashing with them in some way, zapping my enery away...I don't have the energy I had before because of all this "seeing"!! I mean it's really great to know what's going to happen before it happens, but I can't shut it off when I want to or need to...And the worst part of it all, is that I feel that it's so strong, that other people can pick up on this..it's almost like my eyes are deep windows or something...Any help with this would be really appreciated!!!

Rev. sent me what I consider a quite rude request to re- join us. I had to laugh didn't even bother to reply with a message. Here's the basics:
Just because he had 20 years on me I not as intelligent as he is. I'm sorry but there are plenty of people out there (I'm in my late 30's) who don't need to even try hard to show me that I do have more intelligence than they do. At the same time I do not show them disrespect and treat them like a person equal to me.
He graduated BPI making himself his own pedestal to talk down to me in this plea for re-in statement. I mean, he really tried the I'm "high and mighty" approach with me. After sentence #7 I just hit deny without reading any further.
Also faulting me for not using my real picture or name. So to set that straight here. I do not use or have in my album any real pictures of me or my kids simply because of a domestic violence issue close to 7 years ago when I got myself and my kids away from my x and we have a current restraining order against him. My name is my craft name that is what I use all over the net for the same reasons. But he decided that I was unworthy because I couldn't use my real name or pic.

crippling migraines

Okay, I get this thing where when someone thinks of me, I know it...But!! There's one person that thinks of me sooo hard that they end up giving me these horrible migraines and I just don't know who it is or how to stop there energies from interfering with mine!
If anyone could maybe get a feel on who it is, and/or could give me some pointers on how I could block or subdue there intense energies, it would be REALLY appreciated because right now my head feels like a lead weight..Yes I have even tried taking medicines and I've even seen a doctor about this, but nothing helps, so I thought it might be something else...

Need to know if this is common, I only have to think about someone and the next thing you know people from the afterlife are right beside me, now I've just figured out recently that Spirit are actually those from the devine ie Master Ascendents and I now call these other ones people from the afterlife. It's getting embarrassing, 1/2 of them are down right rude and the other's are fine. I'm shit scared to get a job incase I run into trouble at work, in my previous job I would get complaints galore from peoples loved ones, ecetera ecetera for things they did not agree with which really had nothing to do with me, now that's all fine and well but I have had a guts full, how do I prevent this?

As an empath as well I get really down about some of the thoughts that come across, if it were up to me I'd be living on another planet with my soul group, not likely since I'm living down here.

Could you let me know who do I enquire from the spirit realms to help me with this, I reckon my guides are too nice for this lot. I've been working with my Angel book by Silver Raven Wolf, which is a blessing but have yet to fuly connect into the angel realms, am ready to resort to physical violence.

what do clairvoyants really see

I have had a few psychic readings in my life...
Some have been very good... but even the good ones have made a common error i would like to address here...
Sometimes, the reader will read a thoughtform of mine and feed it back to me.
For example... awhile ago, I would visualize myself together with 2 different girls... and a very well known psychic in Hawaii told me that i had two girlfriends.I outright denied her statements on the spot... but then I felt bad afterwards, because I remembered that i was in fact with 2 girls (only mentally, not physically).
I have many other examples of my thoughtforms bleeding into reality, and the poor psychic having to confront it.
Has anyone else experienced this anomaly? (as reader or client)?
Could I just visualize an entirely different identity other than mine and walk around forever shrouded in mystery?

If you like “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance”, then try "Lila", the little known, little read, very misunderstood sequel by Robert M. Pirsig of "Zen/Motorcycle" fame and also "The Dancing Wu Li Masters" by Gary Zukav.
I have not seen "Down The Rabbit Hole" yet....I plan to get that and watch it. Glad to hear that it goes so much further than WTB (What The Bleep Do We Know).

It is much easier (I see) to critique such information than it is to let it sink in or change what we're doing, maybe even to our benefit. I don't suppose that would change even if the moviemakers got it spot on perfect and without any flaws whatsoever (in storyline, philosophy, science, casting, physics, metaphysics, etc).

I have to examine this idea of resistance....and the refusal to let go of critical thinking in the face of such brilliant spiritual/metaphysical information. I think it may be caution related to "cultism" or....it could just be plain old fear and resistance to change because it requires us to do something and become different. I am really in a quandary over this. Can you tell me why people are so resistant to something that ultimately wishes them nothing but good?

Okay, let me tell you something you don't know. "The Secret" has another secret. If you watch it very carefully in the opening sequences, they show a series of images including a lot of famous historical figures. There is a little melodrama about "burying the Secret" out in front of the pyramids. Use your still/pause button. They show a lot of books and parchments. If you pause at just the right moment, you will see the word "Rosicrucians" on the front of some of the manuscripts.

Go to www.rosicrucian.org - It is the site for AMORC Rosicrucians, an ancient organization who funded and sponsored this movie. Check them out for yourself. They did not do it for profit or gain, and for them to do anything of this nature at all is very unlike them. Because they do not actively seek membership. They truly practice the "law of attraction" and they believe that those that belong in their organization will find them. They do not proselytize.
I know the Rosicrucians well, and I personally find no fault with them. They have ancient ties, and ancient knowledge. It would absolutely astound you the people from down through the ages that were Rosicrucians. Virtually anyone who was ANYONE...was most likely a Rosicrucian. I happen to know that as a membership and a body, they have become very concerned about world events currently, and so they broke the mold a bit to make this movie, "The Secret". They get no proceeds from it. They are simply concerned enough about the planet and the state it is currently in to want to "stack the deck" a bit in favor of human survival.

I am breaking all the codes and protocol by disseminating this information, but I am not a member (yet), so I guess I can get away with it. I hope this casts a new light on your viewing of "The Secret", and who knows....maybe Oprah is a Rosicrucian? To me, that would be absolutely cool, because I admire the woman greatly and all the positive influences she has spawned.

Can you see it?

This may be a silly question. And I have always felt it would be a silly question but more and more I am finding that people can't see what I can. Here it is. I can see the energy coming off of elctronics. It's heat related as it looks much in the same as heat coming off of asphalt in the heat of summer. I see it off my light bulbs, my monitor, my refrigerator especially, the tops of peoples heads, even the tops of trees on occassion. I point it out to others and they can't see it. Can you? If you havent' thought about it, stop and take a look. Let me know I'm not losing it.

i used to think that one's physical eyes doesn't really affect the metaphysical stuff that one sees..cause i've this feeling that blind people etc are able to see them..

but why it is that i see them clearer when i'm having my contacts/glasses on?

my speculation is that however much we dial into the other dimensions, we're still in this dimension as well, and so it affects us...and as for the blind person, because they are 'handicapped' in one way, their metaphysical eyes tune in better into the metaphysical zone.

of course being not awakened enough might also serve as a good answer heh.

i came across a few postings from one of the tribes, and they mentioned that it was clearer for them with their glasses on. this made me wonder even more.

what's your say on this?

Will god forgive ?

My Question is simple

Does God forgive thous who take there own life... ????

My beliefs are simple most deal with reincarnation and the after life. I know we have a list of things to do here and weather we do them right or wrong we come back to get it right the next time .... BUT...

My mothers sister got alzheimer's very early in life she was taken down with this in her early 50's and died by her 60's now my mother has this coming on fast ....I am finding it so hard to deal with this... over a yr back I asked her husband to look at how she was forgetting things and please get her help ....he denied this up until June of last yr. and finally decided after a bad auto accident to get her some help in Nov of this yr. Now she cant even remember yesterday let alone what she ate for breakfast.. its growing so hard to keep up with if she took her pills for the day and if she even took the dog our to go potty ..yet her hubby things he can leave her a lone. I don't know what to do its so hard... IM a fixer i fix things ..." I say hey you didn't do this you didn't do that l" she has enough of her brain left to get mad that I'm reminding her .... she blames me that she is going to the Dr. to get tests now......
Today I took her to the Dr. for him to tell her about her blood test. She never even listen to him he talk to me during her apt.... so I would know what pills he was prescribing for her. Slowly she will need someone to be with her all day .. someone to make sure she is taking her bath ...eating ....turning things off... not hurting her self .... When do I bud in and say to her hubby she cant be left alone...

This runs in the family.... genetics are its path

if one knows this will be the future of there family members "ie me"
would god forgive a self act of someone not wanting there family to care for them in this way
why would I want to let my self become this for them to handle .... I watched her fumble to find her
drivers license...how does one not know what this item looks like... she had no clue how much
cash she had she handed it to me to count? She had no idea were we should go to get her
prescription filled.... SHE GOT US LOST ON THE WAY TO HER DR OFFICE .... I cant do this
to my family... why if its something that will save face to my kids and hubby would god not
forgive if I took my life before I became so ....so ...so lost to others....?

not to worry I'm not a suicidal person but I do wonder if I know this is my path to the end. what lessen is
learned here... what am I learning from this state....I know my family probably has a lesson in patience but
if I'm ending the burden to there sadness of dealing with this and they can focus on things in there path.
Would this be an unforgivable thing.

It was that person who appeared at just the right time, think back to a time when things just seemed so hopeless. It was a friendly face, with a soothing word.
In this small world you’ve seen them since.

They often hide their secret wings………..
But it was something they said……. that ascending thought
It was not a thought like your own
Yet it burns in your mind…………still

I came to New Orleans with a bag on my back and a small amount of money that the Marine Corp. had put into a small account for me during my training at Parris Island.
Mt father warned me of the dangers of country mouse in the big city. He said,” They’ll see you coming.”
This city was for the criminal type. There was voodoo in the orah of these mean streets.
On the night of my arrival, I had no clue, as to which way to go. Where to live? Where to get a job? Or even who to trust? I followed stranger’s directions to Jackson Square at Decatur Street. The first thing I noticed was the pantomimes. Then I tried mingling with the street kids that called themselves, Gutter punks. I was invited to a place called a squat. but that didn’t appeal to me a the time, The idea of sleeping with a bunch of runaways on serious drugs, under a bridge. They each had names like Piolot, Saraphim, Frost, and Dragon. One of them looked at the tattoo on my right arm, from the Marine corp., He called me Passenger. That is who I was to become know and.
This was also an appropriate name considering the present circumstance.
As it was getting dark, I noticed a man that was wearing a white robe and was barefooted. He was very unique compared to all the others here. In fact, he very much resembled an image a Christ. He was standing alone as I approach from a distance. He had this strange sort of telepathy that seemed to be crying out; Lord they know not what they do... I tried to hide my face from him, as I walked closer, but, he saw me coming.
However he didn’t stop anyone else that past, or even speak a word to them. He put up a powerful invisible blockade in front of me. The he said,”oh I see you made it here; we would have expected you sooner”. I said” how are you doing and” a conversation begin between us. I could tell that this man had a mission, but so did I. I had so much on my mind however the things that he said were very soothing and put me at ease. I shook his hand and attempted to walk away, but he did not let go of my hand. With his other hand a brown bible placed by the guidians emerged. He said,” you’ll need this However I declined the offer and told him;” my burden is already to large to carry, Ill obtain one latter” He looked disappointed and un-moved as we parted.
Latter that evening a guy named Jeff. He brought me to a small dive bar at the end of Decatur called “the Hideout” He invited me to sleep over on his couch.
Upon arrival I couldn’t help, but, notice all the street kids lying all over the house. The was called the stabbing cabin. It was here that I begin to experiment with new ways of doing drugs. It was here also that I met Tommy know on these vampire streets as Onyx, who latter became my sidekick and roommate. That night however as innocent as I was I found a spot in the corner and fell asleep.
A few days latter I found a job at café D’ Monde
One day as I was caring a try of beneits to my section, I was shocked to see that strange Jesus looking guy from the first day. He was sitting at one of my tables with a group of youths having devotion. They were studying from a brown bible placed by the guidians. We held a brief conversation and that’s the last time I ever saw him again
A few weeks latter a few kids came over to the house to crash of Jeff’s notorios couch... one of them was named Joe and the other was named angel(ironically).The next morning a note had been left on the couch addressed to the passenger….It said………
Someone told us awhile back to give this to the passenger and we figured that MUST BE YOU. It was that same brown bible placed by the guidians. I took the bible and kept it in my back pack for a long time after that.
A few years went by and I was currently waiting to be released after a month long stay in the Orleans parish prison. Soon after I was released I started walking. I didn’t know where I was going to go. I just started walking. I literally walked circles around the city over and over again. Until I came to a hidden road that I’d never noticed before. I started down that road. First I came to a drug clinic, but a sign on the door said closed for the weekend. Then I came to a homeless center. I was greeted by a maintenance man who told me to come back Monday. But I knew my sobriety would never last that long. Then I saw a church. I just knew this was it. However the doors were locked coldly. I broke down on my knees into frenzy. Then I started back down the road in tears.
I came by a small out of place Circular Park around a fountain. There were two old ladies sitting there reading brown bibles placed by the guidians. I tried to hide my tears as I walked by, but, to my surprised they noticed my distress and called me over
When I approached them they asked me what was wrong. I told them I was lost. They said you don’t look lost. Then I told them my story. I said that all I ever wanted is for people to be proud of me.
They each had comforting words. They told me of there sons similar struggles in the past and how Christ helped them to be over-comers. There was something very odd about these two old Africa America ladies though. They were wearing mostly white. They also had a very nostalgic demeanor about them as if they were not from this age. We prayed together. As we parted they said” we would have expected you sooner. Then one of them reached behind her back and handed me that bible placed by the guidians.
I had to look at it twice. I accepted the bible and went my way feeling my comfortable then before.
After a short walk I found a strange starfish shaped crystal ball. I picked it up and saw my self in a stage kaleidoscopic reflection. I carried it along with me
I came to the Salvation Army. I stood outside across the street meditating and contemplating my next move. I was staring at the inhabitants of the center who were eating in the lower level cafeteria though a pain glass widow for about 30 min. I said to myself this must be it and I proceeded across the road. When I got to the door of the cafeteria a man came to unlock the door with a smile on his face. I let go of my pants with my hand that had been holding up my pants to reach for the handled of the door.
Suddenly, with a large amount of people watching in anticipation, my paints fell to my feet. I had been giving those paints without a belt when I left jail because when I went to jail I was in pajama bottoms. Everyone put there hand over there mouths in disbelief and the man quickly shut the door. He must have thought I was some flasher, especially since I’d been starring at them for so long. I left my new crystal ball at the door and told myself that I’d be back. But I never retuned there.
It wasn’t long before I found myself in jail again. At this time I was in the receiving tier. I’d lost my brown bible awhile back. It was terrible in there especially if you are a white boy. I stayed to myself in a cell that was littered with tooth-paste graffiti of the local gangs and wards. A few days went by and a man rolled in one night. He came to my door and asked if he could bunk here. There was something different about him though. He referred to me as Passenger. He told me that he would be fasting for the next few days and he asked me to join him. He told me that during the fast that I would experience spiritual signs. He reached behind his back and pulled out a brown bible placed by the guidians. I already knew this to be a sign. He said he just happened to have it when he was arrested but I knew better. He was no ordinary man and this was no ordinary book.
We scrubbed all the obscene graffiti off of the walls. However there was one such icon that wouldn’t come off easily. It was a dark Smokey looking picture of a demon with the name Dragon king with glowing red eyes and it was located right above my bed. It had a tribal looking crown on his head. This demon would latter show himself in my life in person and in force. I scrubbed it off with struggle. Now that the cell had been cleansed I begin to write scripture from the brown bible on the walls were the graffiti had been. It still existed the next time I came to jail 4 month’s latter but the strange thing was that the demon on the ceiling had returned also.
The day came for my cell-mate to roll out. As he headed for the door I said “hey you never told me your name and he said Jabreil it’s Jabreil. I was alone for a few more days until I was transferred upstairs
When I first entered my new tier I noticed a man turned facing the wall with the back of his head facing me. I first thought him to be jabrel , because from behind his resembled him perfectly. However when he turned around his face was a bit different.
However, he did recognize me somehow. He said we would have expected you sooner.
That night we had a small bible study. They called my new friend Rev. because he would go to the shower’s and sing praises and glory halleluiah’s to the wall with his face to the wall. We could always hear him load and clear way out in the tier all day and all night long……….but I believe he intended it that way…..loud and proud. He rebuked the demons in the room and after the study I asked him if he knew anything about demons……..He said, they are very tall shadow like creatures with piercing white endless eyes. He sad that when (not if) I see them ignore them and whatever I do not walk towards them. He said that when a demon leaves the body your neck will stretch out long because the demon is franticly search for a new dweling, but he will retune someday with 7 brothers. He told me to get some sleep because I’d be rolling out tomorrow’s don’t know how he could have possibly known that because I still had pending charges. The next morning I woke up to the sound of a guard turning the keys and calling my name to roll out ……the charges were dropped that morning I looked for my new friend to ask him how he knew……yet know body seemed to know who I was talking about.
I was back on the streets again. I found my self back on Jackson square. There was a lady there reading tarot cards. They called her lady six. She was an older lady yet I couldn’t help but be drawn to her somehow. My friend onyx grabbed me by the shoulder and spun me around an said don’t look at her man she’s a succubus…I looked back at her again and where I’d seen a rather attractive women I now saw a old lady in rags. Later that night I saw her at a dance club called the shim sham. She was somehow dancing gracefully across the dance floor. There was a haze in the room. It seemed as if we just become alone. She looked so young. She almost seemed to float as she made her way over to the bar towards me. Without one word being spoken between us she breathed a strange word in my ear and the bit me on the neck while snatching a medallion off of my neck that I had worn for years because I could see my reflection in it …..It had given me much strength in needy times …..Sort of look at yourself in the mirror effect... I looked for her for weeks to come but she was nowhere to be found ever again... The tarot card readers told me she’d either taken my medallion to put voodoo on my or to send protection over me……either way I figured she’d done some strange ritual with it and it was certainly aimed at me. I latter found out she moved out to California where she had died from cancer.
Before long I was back out there worse than ever. I started doing things I never thought a man straight man could do. This is why they say drugs are bad. I started dancing in bars. The nights were long and embarrassing and what’s worse is that I actually was getting comfortable doing this for money.
One night several of my regular paying customers took on their true form. This was a strange night ended. The moon outside was an evil crescent orange moon. They came in one after the other and they each tipped me $2 a piece. This was strange because to my knowledge, none of them knew each other, and they all usually tipped better than that. My customers literally covered the bar. I felt like a lamb to the slaughter. They all seemed to have a telepathy that said that my blood would be a feast for them if I did not leave the French quarter within the next 2 days when the moon had eclipsed. I now suspected them to be acting out some vampire like ritual. I went over to the pool table to shot a game. There was a strange street kid standing in the corner with a black hood over his head watching. He whisperingly called me over and he told me that these streets are meant to kill you. He said, “one day a kid is everywhere and then the next day he will be nowhere to be found and no-one seems to know what happened to him, because most street people are either always going to jail or going back out of town when the going get’s tough. After all this is a transient city. He said that you really have to have what it takes out here. I did have an ante rage of mophioso-like friends so I felt safe out here. However I thought about what he had said and I realized that what he said did bear some truth because many of my friends had vanished over time and come to think about it I did remember seeing on the news not long ago that several bodies of local street kids had been turning up in neighboring towns around New Orleans and they fit my profile to a tee.
When I left the bar that night I was knocked out with a brick, by several guys from one of the rival clicks. I was robbed for $1200 that I had saved-up to get a place of my own. What’s worse is that they had taken my I.D. that I would need to continue at my job and without it how was I ever to get a new job. I somehow dragged myself off of the ground unconsciously in a blood-trail into one of my familiar after work bar rooms. When I entered the bar all I remember is standing at the door saying what happened. As everyone in there saw me holding my blood soaked head and they were all screaming. Then I hit the ground again.
I woke up 2 days that morning latter on the bar tenders couch at his house. I had been in a concussion. I did not know what I was going to do but I left his house desperate for a fix hoping to bump in to one of my customer’s that would have some sympathy on me and give me some money. Instead I met a strange man named John Drake. He gave me a card with a picture of him standing in a bell tower with addressed him as a voodoo priest. He gave me some strange coins and told me to spend them wisely. He then told me that if
I was still around latter tonight that he would be able to help me more. Then he just vanished into the shadow as I was observing the strangeness of these coins. It was if he’d given me the money just so I’d stick around till latter that night. That’s when I remembered the premonition about the 2 day’s and this was 2 days latter now. .
I walked around a little longer until I met a friend of mine at the club called the Voodoo. next to the ninth circle(Dante) bar on the old ramparts street that used to be a slave market. He asked me to take a ride with him out to the used bookstore in the old maraney district. When we got there I noticed a stack of book in the back of the store. I searched through the stack of dusty books until one particular book jumped out at me,
It was that brown bible placed by the guidians. I bought it with one of the silver dollars that the strange man had given to me earlier. After we left I asked him to drive around for awhile so that I could get my head together, so we drove in circles around the marine. Then it started to rain hard. A terrible feeling came over me. He was talking but his words were not his-own. He was telling me that. I’ve got you know, you’ve just dead and this is hell come to earth. I looked down at the clock and it had seemed to stop. The whole world was at a stand still. Nothing was moving but me and he and I knew that my 2 days were almost up. I wondered what I had missed. Had we had a wreck in the rain……was I really dead?
We were approaching a railroad crossing. I was white knocking my bible. At that moment I looked up at the very to of an old abandoned train house building. At a high that I figured know one would climb too and on it was spray-painted a very small black cross. I knew this was my sign. The Brown bible in my hand was burning hot. I immediately said STOP THE CAR. When I jumped out of the car I look ahead up the street to the railroad crossing the the cross lights were blinking from green to yellow and then they blacked out as if the power had shut down. The railroad was blind-spotted to on coming traffic by two ole train houses, where on coming traffic would depend on the light to know if a train was coming an the light was out and I head a train coming. I knew this was the hand of the devil because id we would have proceeded on to our coarse we would have been killed. But wait the were outer cars coming now. They don’t know, I thought...Oh my God those innocent people don’t know. I stood in the middle of the road and blocked traffic while people were yelling at me to move from there car windows. Just then a red and black iron roaring train came screaming by. I looked up to thank God and the black cross was now gone. The world seemed to be back to normal and the sun came back out for an encore just before the night came.
We retuned back to the ramparts and I reflected back to the 2 day premonition and I started walking without direction away from the French quarter. I came through the hood when I noticed an old lady sitting on her porch. I asked he5r for some spare change for a bite to eat, but she must have known I really just wanted money to get loaded. She said “I have no money but let me see if I can go get you something to eat” wait here for a moment “she said as she walked around down the side alley of the house toward the back yard.
When she returned, she was not alone. There with her were suddenly were about 30 men of all ages. They made a circle around my before I could react. The old lady said” we would have expected you sooner” They all started praying in tongues and I was frozen in a state of shock. I was having hot flashes. My knees buckled under me as a man put on leather gloves as if to apprehend me like a cop. Then another person came up behind me and laid his hands on me and prayed. Then I fainted. When I came too,
They told me that I was at the Mary Magdalene house of recovery. They started telling me stories of how they were once all just like me. Blinded but now they see, I couldn’t believe the irony of this. How I had stumbled upon a small house in the ghetto and it had turned out to be a re-hab that just also happened to be a Christ center. They told me they were just heading out to church when I came by and they invited me to come along. I declined and told them I’d be back tomorrow because I had some business to take care of first, but I think they knew the real reason
I started walking down the street with my eyes closed. Then I was rushed by a mighty wind into a trance like vision. In the vision I was right here and right now. This was a vision of now. In the vision I was walking along when I stepped into a small ankle deep hole. I fell to the ground and as the hole grew larger and larger sucking me under little by little like quick sand until I was trapped in an abyss. Then I opened my eyes and snapped out of it an I heard the voice of what I took to be God saying “If you ever walk away from me again I will pull you under” Then it was if it had never happened and I was standing at the gates of an Old weed covered cathedral and a hidden from the street courtyard surrounded by live oaks and willows.
I entered the courtyard and inside was this entire ancient looking mold covers statues of angels and saints. I walked over to a statue of Mother Mary and it shed down a bronze colored tear. I prayed for forgiveness at her feet. As I looked up I noticed that all of the statues of the angels were pointing toward one direction. That’s the direction I walked when I exited the gate.
It began to rain again and I found my way to a familiar drug house. The guys inside hipped me to the idea that the neighbors had some power tools in their back-yard and if I would climb over the fence to steal them that we could all make some money and that they already had a buyer waiting. I went and hit the lick and returned with a trimmed and a weed eater. One of the guys and me went walking down the road in the rain with an umbrella a stolen trimmer and a weed eater seemingly flying prideful like a guiding flag. I was the first to notice the police curser that had just passed us and was now turning around. I tried to stop him but he walked right into them. Off to jail again…….
The Rev. was here again also. This time however he had a huge jailhouse ministry. People came from all around on our days on the yard to hear him preach. He would sing out-load “Halleluiah…..all glory to ya… In the name of Immanuel…honor and glory…. in the name of Jesus……. father I love you” in a beautiful angelic hymn. Then one night came and he prayed out-load for his own release. The next morning came and he was released. As he was leaving I asked him what he did to get put in here and he said he just came to do Gods will. Then he gave me that Brown bible placed by the guidians and asked me to take over the bible study. I knew that this meant that I would have to also host the morning devotion and bless the food at chow. The last thing he did before he left the dorm is address the inmates pointing over to my saying “this man is anointed by God, let no harm come to Gods chosen servant” Nervous as I was I did my job for the next few weeks. Then one night I prayed for my release. The next morning the charges were dropped and I was free again.
I went strait to the bartender’s house that had helped me before. As I was knocking on his door a neighbor came over and asked me who I was looking for. I said Michel. He then told me that Michel is dead. That they had found him this morning. They suspected suicide. I used this a an excuse to relapse again
Then I walked to the garden district where Anne rice and Trent razor live. There was the opportunity of a horse of a different color out here…….rich people…..and that meant $$$$ I started robbing cars that were unlocked for spare change or anything that I could find. I would rip a run and rip and run. Before I knew it I’d been coming out here for weeks. I would walk until I couldn’t walk any more for days at time and I would only stop when I couldn’t go any longer and the I would find the nearest house to crawl under to hide and go to sleep.
One night when I was out robbing I came to a car that was tented with a very dark window. I couldn’t see what was in it but I could see my reflection very well. I saw myself dressed in all black wearing a toboggan. With a backpack full of burglary tools. I looked down at my reflection for a-while. Then I looked down at my feet and I noticed that I was standing on a spay-painted neighborhood watch sign. And in the sign was a demonic looking bugurlar depicted wearing all black with endless white diamond shaped eyes and wearing a sinister black hat. Like the spy-spy cartoon and also the loge for the entrance to the hideout bar that I had gone to when I first came to New Orleans. I looked at the sign and then I looked at my own reflection in the car window then I looked down and then up again. The man in the painting was me. I was the neighborhood prowler. What had I become, I thought to myself? How have I gotten away with this for so long? Somebody has to have put 2 and 2 together by now. Seeing me around somebody is bound to have called the cops. I considered myself lucky and I left the garden district for good.
I started walking up Louisiana Street toward Mid-city. I came to an old church with a bell tower. It was the same tower that I remembered from the business card of the voodoo priest John Drake. I stopped to stare at it for to long…….There it (he) was. Perched like an eagle waiting patiently for his pray. Like a gargoyle. It was the demon I remembered depicted above my bed each time I went to jail. (See photo #13 in pics)
I ran as I could all the way across town to mid-city. I ran into a back yard to catch my breath. There where I thought was a brush of bushes was a motion. Then I realized that those were not bushes at all. It stood up with red glowing eyes and spread its wings. This thing was huge. Very muscular……..with horns that seemed to curl down under his chin. I ran for my life until I came to st. Louis cemetery’s I looked back there he was standing there like a tall dark shadow with a statue of liberty like crown that also resembled a feather war-hat of some ancient Indian war chief. Around him was a legion of demons. Some of them( who I would latter call strong men) were wearing French looking napoleon style hats and they were also very tall and other’s were ware jester looking hats that you see at mardie-gras with sad faces an they were flying around and were very small. There leader, who I would latter call Legion, was carrying a red crystal ball black staff and this staff also had two horns (see#77photo in pics). They all seemed to be waving for me to come over to them. I thought back to when I was told to ignore them.
I ran into the st. Louis cemetery, It didn’t take long before the sprits here begin to peep there heads up though the ground. One by one. They all stared at me like curious frightened cats that didn’t seem to know that they were dead. It was if they would not move or run unless I moved first. I though this must be why the Egyptians honored cats.
Truly I was walking a line between the living and the dead. I fell asleep in the cemetery that night.
The next morning I went walking around mid city bumming change at the street car line. Then I went walking through the neighborhoods……just for the sake of walking. I was determined to turn over a new leaf. I had noticed a strange man who was walking around also. Every street I turned down he seemed to be just over on the next block.
Finally after I walked down a dead end street and was walking back out of it we collided. I couldn’t avoid him now. He said that he was house shopping and he asked me if I could show him if any houses were available. We walked around for a bit till I popped the question. Do you have any spare change for a little food? He said, no but if you come with me we could take care of that problem. I followed him over a few streets to a big new church. We walked into a kitchen and he gave me some food. He asked if he could pray for me and I said yes. His started praying in tongues. When he was finished he asked me if I had ever prayed in tongues and said no. He said just let your tongue click. So I tried it but it sounded forced and I don’t think it was the holly spirit at that time. He then took me thru the sanctuary into a small office. On the wall, I was surprised to see was a picture of him dressed in robe. I asked are you the……he stopped me……the preacher he said….Yes I am .Then he reached into his desk and pulled out that brown bible placed by the guidians. I opened it up and there staring me in the face was the page I had folded down the last time I had read it.

Earliest premonition/ Arnie Swatzenager and Challenger

I remmember one thing about that time
It could have been an early premonition
I was on a long trip somewhere with my parrents
I was in the back seat and I overheard a conversation between them
they were arguing if Arnald Swatzinager would ever be prez.
I know.....not a U.S. born..........but.
I remmembered that conversation vividly becouse it was so odd
When he became Govt. I asked my parents if they remmembered that
they said no........he couldn't be prez. and we never had that conversation
Well why have I carried this my whole life?......
I should have taken note of the Regan "Just say No"
I do also remmeber the Challenger explosion
I took off school that day to see it
That scared me
when Columbia happened I had that same feeling that day before it happened
that I had the Day of Challenger

Hello everyone...So here's a little recap of a situation that has brought on this phenomenon... I have had a very unique experience when I meditated to open up my heart chakra, aside from that, I'm able to see purple lights swirling around me, especially near my hands...what could this mean? are they a part of my aura, is it something completely different, who knows?

crystal spirits?

hi everyone,

i've a quick question for ya'll -- from your experience/ knowledge etc, what do you know about spirits inhabiting a crystal? i mean this in a rather literal sense.

do you know of any spirits who lived/live in crystals?

and if so, why do you think they chose to live in crystals?

or perhaps there are spirit energy in all crystals, just that it's more visible in certain crystals (like a salt crystal lamp perhaps)?

i don't really know cause i don't really work with crystals; i prefer working with energy as it is. anyways, everytime i look at this salt crystal lamp, i can't help wondering..

i have tried asking it. the last time i did that (which was years ago), i didn't receive a positive feedback heh. it was actually not very pleased, and i guess it didn't want me poking my nose..or then again, it could be because i was trying to control its movement (it was spinning in one direction, and i made it spin in the opposite direction, and that i think, caused it to be a lil irritated)

anyway, i probably will try asking it one of these days if i feel up to it.

for now, i'll just see if ya'll have any insights ^.^

a whisper or Deja vu

HI Im new here. Seems a good place to ask some Q's Over 4 yrs back I had what one would call deja vu. It scared me, the last one I had was more like a vision of a truck something bout the front wheels, in trafic on the expressway, and fear. We were planing a camping trip in our van we packed the kids hooked up the trailer (30ft) and started on our 6 hr drive. All the while I was biting the bit. The feeling was way stronger front end front tires. My hubby knew I was upset and nervous. So he stayed back in trafic and was causous. About 2 hrs into the trip a white straight truck blew the Left front tire he weaved into the wall and bounced into trafic in front of us he was able to bring it into control and pulled all the way across trafic to the right side. Many cars were screaching to let him over.
I had told my family days earler of my vision, as they looked at it and looked at me i found them not makin fun of me this time. Other things had happen before that sorta the same way but none as powerful as that one. I went in for a reading right away to a good psychic here in town and asked them to stop this it was scaring me and my family i was not ready to guide it or work with it and it was getting stronger and out of control. after the reading It went away.
I am older now my kids gone im ready to wrok with this in ways to help. But not sure how to get it back. Is this something that comes and goes? Will it come back? I have always had beleif of our journies and lessons here each time we are back on earth. Not sure why this sounds right to me but it does. I think I have been back many times. I have great insite and pick up on things others dont see. My girls were always amazed how I knew what they were up to, this made them very sure not to try anything for they always got caught. (hehe)
the things i call deja vu sometimes were like a daytime day dream. or other times they were more like as it was happening i would say to my self wow i have been here i know what will happen next or what this person will say.. i never knew the time day or exactness of it but i knew were it was going after it started.
Anyways just a few Q's was wondering if someone could tell me the answers to.

I went back a year in posting and have only found 103 different names. I am mulling it over, whether or not I'm going to remove those who have not participated with us in the last year. If this tribe had any meaning to them whatsoever, there would have been some kind of active participation in the last year.
This is the only time I am going to mention this before taking action. I think this place should mean more than to make an impression on someone who is looking over profiles. If you disagree feel free to say so, as this will be done sometime prior to this weekend.

meditating on the chakras

Is it not a good idea to focus on one chakra at a time when meditating? I don't mean focus on one then move to another chakra before you cease from meditating, I mean just one a single session... Because yesterday I was meditating, to try and see if I could get rid of blocks in my heart chakra, and it was getting to be a really powerful experience. Then the freakiest thing happened. Before I started I decided to sit on my bedroom floor and since my room isn't that big, I chose somewhere I could stretch if needed, and that place was right in front of a picture that I hung up in my room(I didn't think much of it), but because it's a large picture, it's surface acts like a mirror, or just a reflective surface. Now keep in mind that I look at myself almost everyday and see myself reflected in it, completely normal looking. But when I finished meditating, there was this fog around my face, then it cleared a bit and I saw that I had my mouth open(but I didn't), then me in the reflective surface, started to smile! then, I started to scream, eventhough I didn't hear anything! IT REALLY FREAKED ME out!
could someone tell what happended here?

The Consequences of the Death of Empathy

One of the most devastating consequences of unearned privilege -- both for those of us on top and, for very different reasons, those who suffer beneath -- is the death of empathy.

Too many people with privileges of various kinds -- based on race or gender, economic status or citizenship in a powerful country -- go to great lengths not to know, to stay unaware of the reality of how so many live without our privilege. But even when we do learn, it’s clear that information alone doesn’t always lead to the needed political action. For that, we desperately need empathy, the capacity to understand the experiences -- especially the suffering -- of others.

Too often in this country, privilege undermines that capacity for empathy, limiting the possibilities for solidarity. Two examples from my recent experience brought this home for me.

“Pity” party

At a Washington, DC, organizing conference on Palestine, a group of dedicated activists and academics gathered to take stock of the failure of the Oslo accords and think creatively about new directions to guarantee democracy and human rights for everyone in Israel and Palestine. Along with analysis of Israel’s continuing illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories, the participants talked about missteps in the Palestinian resistance movements as well. Such critical self-reflection is crucial if past mistakes are to be avoided in the future struggle for justice.

At the end of a tiring but productive day, a white male student from a nearby college rose during the discussion period to ask a question. He said that in his class they were being encouraged to be critical of mainstream media and the conventional wisdom, and that he wanted to practice such critical thinking skills in this context, too. He challenged the panel to come up with concrete solutions, saying smugly that it seemed the conference so far had been nothing more than a “Palestinian pity party.”

Responding to the not-so-subtle racism and nationalism in such comments is always tricky, but as the only white, U.S.-born person on the panel I thought I shouldn’t leave it to others to call the student on his ugly display of privilege.

The problem with privilege, I said, is that it so often leads to incredible arrogance, the belief that one has a right to blurt out in public anything on one’s mind, no matter how uninformed or thoughtless. I pointed out to the young man that he seemed to have missed how much of the day had been devoted to careful analysis without a hint of self-pity. Perhaps his question had something to do with seeing the issue from the comfortable position of someone safe in the United States with no direct experience of the struggle and suffering of people in Palestine.

At that point, Diana Buttu, a Palestinian- Canadian lawyer now living in the West Bank, stepped in and explained what life is like in the territories. Switching gears from the legal/political analysis she had offered earlier, Buttu described the daily reality of negotiating checkpoints and Jewish-only roads just to be able to travel a few miles for work or to see friends and relatives. She described the grinding poverty of the territories, where at least half of the population is below the official poverty line. Her comments made it clear that this wasn’t about self-pity but about a deeply felt concern about injustices being perpetrated and the real effects on real people. Buttu, who pointed out that she didn’t suffer as much as others in the territories because she travels with a Canadian passport, modeled -- rather than preached -- empathy, and the effect was powerful. She was able to recognize that the student was young and ignorant, and that the moment called for a correction of that ignorance but with some compassion for him.

“Sex” party

In a presentation on the feminist critique of pornography at a college, I described some of the routine body-punishing types of sex that are common, especially in the genre known as “gonzo,” the most harsh and overtly cruel type of sexually explicit material. A young man from the audience waited until the rest of the folks who had questions were gone and then approached me cautiously, saying he wanted to challenge some claims I had made.

The student said that he watched gonzo pornography regularly and thought I had distorted the reality of such material. None of what he watched, he said, sounded like what I had described. “The stuff I like -- it’s just movies of people who liked to party,” he told me.

I asked him to tell me more about what he watched. As he talked, it became clear he was describing exactly the kind of material I had discussed, and I could see the realization emerge in him: My assessment of the rough and degrading nature of that pornography was accurate, and he had simply never recognized it. When he mentioned a type of sex he liked to watch in pornography called a DP -- double penetration, in which a woman is penetrated vaginally and anally at the same time -- it really started to dawn on him: In these scenes, the sex was defined by men’s sense of control over, and domination of, women.

I pressed a bit more. What kind of things did the men call the woman during this sex? I asked. As he started to reproduce some of the terms -- all names meant to demean and insult women -- it became impossible for him to avoid the conclusion that the pornography he had been consuming is not just sex, but sex in which men act out contempt for women.

At that point, he stammered, “But I don’t hate women. I love women. I wouldn’t use pornography like that.”

That contradiction wasn’t going to be worked out in the moment. Instead, I told the student that I wasn’t arguing that he hated women but was simply pointing out he had been getting sexual pleasure from pornography that expressed hatred for women. Why had that misogyny been invisible to him? Why had he been unable to see what was happening on the screen and imagine how women might feel about such degrading treatment?

The answer is simple enough: The privileges that come with being a man in patriarchy had undermined his capacity to empathize, allowing the sexual pleasure he felt to override his humanity and making it difficult for him to put himself in the place of a woman experiencing overtly cruel and degrading treatment.

Privilege and the empathy deficit

The student at the Palestine conference lives in a country in which he has never had to pass through a checkpoint or justify himself to authorities simply because of the color of his skin, ethnicity, or citizenship. The student at my pornography presentation lives in a society in which he has never had to fear he would be the target of degrading and potentially violent sexual behavior simply because of his gender. Both had learned to think of themselves and their experience as the norm, against which the behavior of others should be judged.

How can I be so sure of that claim? Because it’s the way I was raised as a white man of European heritage with U.S. citizenship. Comfortable in my privilege, I spent much of my life wondering why so many other people who didn’t look like me complained so much. I understood there was inequality and injustice in the world, but life seemed reasonably fair to me. After all, my hard work seemed to be rewarded, which suggested to me that those not so well off should just work a little harder and stop whining.

Looking back, I can see that even though I don’t come from the wealthy sector of society, the unearned privileges that I enjoyed had diminished my capacity for empathy. I had access to lots of information, but I was emotionally underdeveloped. I could know things, but at the same time not feel the consequences of that knowledge. That meant I could avoid the difficult conclusion that would have come from a deeper knowing and feeling -- that the inequality and injustice in the world was benefiting me at some level, and therefore I had a heightened obligation to confront it.

As I became politicized later in my life, I realized I not only had to learn more about the world but also had to fight to reclaim an ability to empathize. For me, that process started at the intimate level, by recognizing the misogyny and racism in the pornography I had grown up with. From there, it moved to the global, by recognizing the poverty and violence suffered by the targets of U.S. power.

The struggle to know and to feel is never-ending, because my privilege continues. The way in which privilege insulates us can’t simply be renounced and then easily transcended. For me, it takes continual effort, marked by moments of real connection with others that deepen my sense of life, as well as continued failures to empathize deeply enough that remind me of the need for humility. It is part of the endless struggle to be human in a world saturated with so much suffering.

Organizing lessons

There are two lessons in this for left/progressive political organizing.

The first involves outreach. Everyone is aware that accurate facts and a compelling logical argument are not enough to carry the day politically. But that doesn’t mean quick-hitting emotional appeals based on fear or pity are the answer. We need not simply to use emotion, but to develop collectively a deeper capacity for empathy. That alone doesn’t guarantee political victory, but it’s hard to imagine much progress without it.

Second, for those of us with unearned privilege, as we focus on outreach we have to remember to reach in as well. Privilege is insidious, and it works on us even when we think we have moved past it. When we see the ugliest expressions of that privilege in others, it’s tempting to want to distance ourselves from them, to label them as the problem and see ourselves as part of the solution. But to be effective organizers, we have to be able to practice empathy in all directions.

Looking back at the two examples, I can see that with the young man struggling with his pornography use, I had been able to connect. He was taking his first steps out of his own isolation and illusions about what kind of “party” goes on in pornography, and as my conversation with him ended I told him that I understood how difficult it can be. I gave him my card and encouraged him to contact me if I could help.

I was less successful with the student at the Palestine conference. It was appropriate to be blunt in my comments, not only to try to change him but to mark to the others in the room just how inappropriate his “pity party” remark had been. But I wanted to follow up with him after the event, to tell him that while I strongly disagreed with his comments, there was a way in which I felt he and I were part of the same struggle.

Unfortunately, the young man slipped out during the last panel and didn’t return. Maybe he had another engagement to get to, or perhaps he wanted to avoid the possibility of another confrontation. Maybe he rejected what he heard, or perhaps he went off to be alone and ponder.

Whatever his choice, I continue to ponder, to struggle, to be frustrated with the limits of others and with my own failures. And I continue to plod forward.

It is in our plodding, I believe, that we can find hope for the future. We don’t have to be perfect. We just have to keep trying to connect in a world that gives us many ways to disconnect if we choose.

Each day we struggle to empathize, we hold onto our humanity.

Each day we stay connected -- to ourselves and each other -- is another plodding step forward.
